Fun fact about Atlantic Beach = Fort Macon had fallen into disrepair and was guarded by a single soldier at the beginning of the Civil War when troops from North Carolina marched in to take the fort over.
Bonus fun fact = The "Pagoda House" on West Boardwalk Blvd. is the last remaining structure from the late 1920's construction of the Pagoda bath houses and similar structures.
